Sports and Economics
Sports are a major part for pretty much any city within the world. The reason for this is that not only does it create unity it also creates a connection between the sports organization and the city or town in which they are located. Another way sports are important to cities is the economic impact it can have. There are a few major sporting events within the world that are unique in the sense that though they are not always held in the same place every year they can provide major boost to the economics of the cities in which they are held. Here I will look at a three of these special sporting events. The FIFA World Cup, and the NFL Superbowl. I will show how not only how these events can positively affect the cities in which they are being held in but some of the negative impacts these events can cause.

FIFA World Cup
Brief history this event was created in 1930 by then Fifa president Jules Rimet. It only featured 13 countries with Uruguay being the first eventual winner defeating Argentina 4–2. Shortly after this the field was then expanded to the 32 team format the event follows till this day. The reason this event is so special is that not only does if feature the world best players across 32 countries but it is held every 4 years in a different location each time. This is what make the event very highly sought after by potential host nations not only for the event itself but the money that the competition itself generates for the and the host nation.

NFL Super bowl
Unlike the World Cup the super bowl is very much different type of event. Not only do they differ in the fact that the World Cup is played every 4 years and is an international event the super bowl is a whole different sport and is a domestic U.S event . So brief history the Super Bowl is the yearly championship game played in the National Football League at the end of a 8 team playoff. the game started around 1966 after the two existing league's at the time the NFL and AFL decided to merge it wasn't till 1970 the the league change the name of the game to "Super Bowl". Like the World Cup the game is played in a different venue and city every year and unlike the world cup the event does not need any prior renovation to the host city which means less economic expense to deal with.

Super bowl 51
February 5, 2017 was the date of the last NFL Super Bowl the game is held in Houston, Texas. The Atlanta Falcons and New England Patriots. Though I could reference may other game I felt that most recent would be the best example of the games economic impact on the city of Houston. Just like the World Cup I will give the positive and negative impact the event has one the city.
Positives:

Positives:
- Super Bowl LI brought an estimated $428 million in new
spending to Greater Houston.
This windfall originated from the
local travel spending of
150,000 visitors
(not including game
tickets) and an estimated
$137 million in local game, broadcast,
and event hosting expenditures - Super Bowl LIVE and NFL Experience reached an all-time record of 1.3 million attendees
- Super Bowl LI was the most-watched Super Bowl ever with 172,000,000 total viewers within 70% of homes across the U.S.
- Houston welcomed 150,000 out of town visitors for Super Bowl LI
- Like the World Cup when the events moves one the economic up lift does send things back or close to back to normal but the drastic difference is because it is a domestic event to economic pitfall is a lot less likely.
Conclusion:
What Ive learned while looking into that these major sports event like the World Cup, Olympic, even domestic events like the Super bowl or the NBA Finials all have there take away. On one hand they do inject funds in the respective cities that host the events but if the city or in the case of events that are international the status of the countries economic plays a big part in how the event impacts the city or country long-term. If the infrastructure is not there these events can cripple where ever the are being held after they move on.
